Consolidation of cargo

Consolidation of consignments

In the freight transport system, a large share of freight is made up of so-called consolidated shipments. One of Relanta’s main activities is the transportation of groupage cargo, which entails the provision of such services as freight consolidation. What is “cargo consolidation” and why is it necessary?

Consolidation is the pooling of small and medium-sized consignments from different shippers at a single warehouse for one consignee with the subsequent transportation of the consolidated consignment in one vehicle. This can significantly reduce the cost of transportation compared with delivery of goods individually. The number of drop shipments allows you to send your shipment quickly together with the accompanying consignment. And the lower financial cost attracts more and more customers to this mode of transport. This method is most commonly used for smaller shipments and volumes. Small consignments do not require a truck or a container, and it is not cost-effective to ship them separately. This is why the problem is solved by international consolidation shipments. Consolidation of cargo includes bundling, packing, bagging, labelling, containerisation, and documentation of the cargo.

Consolidation scheme:

  • directly from your shippers, the cargo arrives at the nearest consolidation warehouse, where it undergoes a mandatory inspection;
  • The quantities are counted and verified against the shipping documents;
  • The condition of the cargo is verified and documents required for further shipment are available;
  • Your shipments are then combined with other shipments.
  • Your shipments are then consolidated with other shipments and delivered to their final destination.

The first and most important thing you need is a warehouse. The warehouse must be a clean, enclosed building. It must be roofed and made of non-flammable materials. The warehouse must not be allowed to be wet, damp, mouldy or dirty. A room which has loading equipment for large container loads and boxes where smaller loads are stowed. Goods are packed properly in the warehouse. The goods must be fully prepared for transport. Loads of all kinds of goods are stored in the warehouse. Cargo of one customer may be placed in just one box. The entire load is unrecognisable. It is boxed, easy to load, and tidy. The goods are transported by bus or truck.

Consolidation must be smoothly coordinated. Transport must arrive on time. Goods must be packed well, with filling and wrapping materials. A person must be present during loading to ensure the integrity of the shipment, and will replace packages if they are damaged. The company is obliged to transport the entire consignment with the same quality. The box may contain mediocre goods as well as unique works of art. The company should not confuse the address and the direction of transport, and if this happens, the carrier should deliver the goods to your location free of charge and apologise. Special goods should be handled with particular care by the company. If you are transporting particularly fragile goods, they should be loaded last in a more secure location.

Logistic company Relanta guarantees the safe transport of goods and takes full responsibility for the integrity and safety of the goods transported. With the help of consolidation, it has become possible to transport goods quickly and with minimum costs. The staff of Relanta constantly monitors the progress of the goods. Consignments are delivered to the recipient’s warehouse anywhere in the world.
